Sometimes being a stay at home mom can be a bit of a challenge. Yes, I love being able to make money online when I need to and I love being able to eat my favorite foods at my desk and not have to worry about breaking any rules or policies and I love being able to work in my pajamas and not have to get up and try to get ready to clock into a job I dread going to everyday. But sometimes working indoors can get to me and sitting by the window does not always help.
One of the things I hate the most is my computer battery not being at its best. I've had this computer for quite sometime and the battery isn't going all the way out but it is at the point where I have to keep my laptop plugged in for it to stay on. No biggie, get another battery right? but then my daughter thought it would be a good idea to take my buttons off of my keyboard so some letters are missing and so now I have to use a desktop keyboard in order to type. Yes, working from home can be a challenge and does come with its supply of ups and downs emotionally. But I guess that is what comes with the territory. I love working from home and being able to stay with my children. But sometimes when things get hard or work slows down or days are not going well, I can sometimes find myself thinking "I should just go back to finding a job." then I snap out of the fantasy really fast and ask myself " What are you thinking woman?" Yes, I know a job brings money but I know why I opted out of working for an employer and took the entrepreneur freelance worker route. It was because I want freedom to enjoy my days and still make money.
I think I let my mind wonder too much and get tangled in the emotional room of and I get to thinking all of these weird questions. May be it's a woman thing. I know many stay at home mothers who feel isolated online and away from co-workers or other people, so they feel maybe they should have never decided to do this and many will return back to work. But for me I cannot do that and don't want to. So what I do is look to join online communities with other stay at home mothers who also do the same thing as me or similar. Working online can get too quiet. Yes, we have our kids but we already deal with them on a daily time when we are not working, and we also need to have that break for ourselves to relax and rest up. Get away from the computer screen for a bit and rest our minds. So with these tips I hope this can be of help to another stay at home worker who may be feeling the blues.
1. Get out of the house: take a break from the computer and go for a walk, it can be a short walk around the block or just sitting on the porch or balcony can be of help to relax you.
2. Get a babysitter: Just because you work from home, doesn't always mean you have to have the kids with you at all times, yes you still want to be around them. But you also need your time to rest up. So see about getting a babysitter to help you have that time to get caught up on work and rest up. See if you can negotiate something with your family or close friends to possibly do this on a regular basis. Explain to them your reasons and work to get them to understand if they are having a hard time wanting to know why. Many times our own family can get confused as to why we would need those services if we chose to work from home. Let them know it isn't always about getting away from the kids, you just need your personal time to regroup your thoughts and rest yourself and there is nothing wrong with that, you are not a robot you cannot just go, go, go and then plug yourself up for a recharge.
3. Take your work with you: Along with getting a babysitter, take your work with you to different environments, coffee shops and cafes, the library, to the park, wherever you can go where there are other people and you can relax and enjoy the day and still get your work done, you don't always have to stay in the house.
4. Have a time for a spa day: making a time slot for yourself when the kids are sleeping is a good way as well to get that rest you need and to get caught up on work. You can even do a mini spa and facial and sit at your computer resting. That is one of the good things about working online no one can see you unless you are doing an online meeting with video conferencing, but other than that wear your hair in a messy bun, slop some facial mask on, have your feet in your slippers and relax. Take advantage of that nap time. Work to try and have a regular nap time schedule during the day.
Remember working from home does not have to be a stress or a hassle. You can have your time to unwind, relax, rest and take a break so you can return back to your work with a refreshed mind and spirit. Don't neglect yourself and you don't have to be tied down to a laptop all day. You work from home remember? Have it your way, you deserve it.
